An electric coolant pump combines fluid circulation with electronic control. That makes a pump warning relevant to electrical diagnosis, but it does not mean the control unit is necessarily the failed part.
A component-supplier example
HELLA’s MP150 media-pump guide describes an electrically driven pump used in several cooling applications, including battery, drive and power-electronics cooling. In its P2600 example, the possible causes include the supply, fuse, circuit, pump and controller. The pump can report faults through its data-bus interface. Read HELLA’s media-pump guide.
That example explains the diagnostic approach. It does not identify the pump fitted to every car storing P2600, or mean that every such vehicle is an EV.
Identify the circuit before ordering parts
Send the vehicle’s powertrain details and the exact fault description. If the scan calls the component an auxiliary pump, ask the technician to identify its actual position and function from the vehicle information. Modern cooling systems may have more than one circuit.
Useful history includes coolant loss, recent cooling-system work, connector damage and whether the warning appears during charging, driving or after shutdown. Keep any professional power-supply or communication findings with the scan.
Why this is not a dry bench-running test
HELLA explicitly warns against electrically operating its pump before filling it with coolant. Follow the vehicle and component instructions rather than trying a direct battery connection. Pressurised coolant and EV high-voltage systems require appropriately trained technicians.
