“No fault codes” can sound reassuring until the vehicle still refuses to enter READY. A manufacturer bulletin for a particular Niro configuration shows why the symptom and live-data context must stay part of the investigation.
A narrowly defined manufacturer example
Kia’s November 2021 Pitstop PS713 concerns some 2017-2022 Niro LX HEV vehicles with standard key-start ignition. It describes a missing READY indication and no-start condition that can follow low 12-volt battery voltage, involving start authorisation by the hybrid power control unit. Read Kia PS713.
It is a US-market document with specific data conditions. It should not be applied automatically to push-button vehicles, plug-in variants or every UK Niro. The current manufacturer procedure and vehicle applicability must be checked.
Say what “will not start” means
- Does the dashboard wake up normally?
- Is READY absent, or is READY present with the petrol engine silent?
- Was the 12-volt battery recently flat, disconnected or replaced?
- Is the vehicle key-start or push-button start, and does another authorised key behave differently?
These observations help avoid mixing different complaints. Keep the diagnostic report even when it records no codes, including the tool used and systems that were checked.
Start-authorisation work is not a general reset
The bulletin contains conditional immobiliser procedures for technicians. They should not be treated as a routine reset or attempted on unrelated controllers. Preserve the original keys, module identities and programming history.
