A charging warning and an isolation-related code deserve a careful record of the circumstances. Repeatedly erasing the warning can lose useful evidence without addressing its cause. Follow the vehicle’s warning instructions and arrange professional assessment if charging or driving is restricted.
A vehicle-specific example
GM bulletin 21-NA-224, dated November 2022, concerns charging refusal and isolation warnings involving P0AA6 and/or P1FFF, P1F0E and P0DAA. Its application list includes 2011–2015 Chevrolet Volt, 2014–2016 Cadillac ELR and 2011–2014 Opel Ampera. Useful observations before the appointment
Record whether the fault appears as the cable is connected, when charging begins, after rain or after a period parked. Note whether another charging point changes the symptom, but do not keep retrying when the vehicle or charging equipment reports a safety fault. Record the exact message rather than replacing it with “battery faulty”.
- Save the complete scan with additional codes and subcodes.
- Record the vehicle year and exact model; similarly named vehicles can have different systems.
- Explain any cooling-system, charging-system or collision work.
- Include the first occurrence and whether the fault is intermittent.
Why a reset is not a diagnosis
The workshop needs to establish the relevant diagnostic path and whether any bulletin still applies to the vehicle’s current configuration. Software history, supporting codes and physical assessment can all affect the next step. A code alone does not establish that a battery pack should be replaced.
