A symptom can occur between the updates shown on a diagnostic display. A graph that looks smooth does not always prove the underlying signal stayed steady. The tool, selected parameters and communication system influence what is actually captured.
Reduce uncertainty in the record
Tell the technician exactly when the symptom occurred and which parameter was expected to change. Preserve the original log, its time scale and the list of selected readings. A screen recording with no event marker can make a brief fault difficult to locate afterwards.
Choose a capture method for the fault
The workshop may narrow the parameter list, use supported event recording or choose an electrical measurement appropriate to the suspected circuit. Faster-looking graphs are not automatically better evidence if the wrong values are being recorded. The measurement must answer a specific diagnostic question.
Do not watch a handheld scanner while driving. Arrange safe data collection and let the workshop decide whether reproducing the fault on the road is appropriate. If the complaint involves stalling, loss of drive or another safety concern, discuss recovery and controlled testing instead of deliberately provoking it in traffic.
