Unusual heat, discolouration or a burning smell at a charging connection requires attention. Do not continue repeated sessions to determine how hot it becomes, and do not cool or modify a connector to bypass a warning.
Record the equipment safely
Identify the cable, charging point and exact alert. External photographs may help once the equipment is safe to approach. Follow the manufacturer’s stop and disconnection instructions; damaged equipment should be assessed by the appropriate provider.
The vehicle inlet and external connector are a mating system, so the investigation may involve both. A reduced charging rate does not demonstrate that the underlying issue is repaired. Ask who will inspect each side and preserve the event log before another session overwrites useful information.
