Reading information and changing configuration have different consequences. Repair histories are clearer when reports distinguish scans, output tests, resets and actual writes.
Ask for an operation record
Keep the tool log and selected functions when available. If a problem appeared during testing, establish what action immediately preceded it. Do not assume that connecting a scanner means the ECU was programmed.
Equally, avoid describing a service reset or adaptation as merely a scan. Accurate terminology helps a second workshop understand what may have changed and which evidence remains intact. A useful handover lists completed operations and observed results without blaming software or hardware before the relevant sequence has been established.
