Inoperative paddles need to be compared with the main selector and the vehicle’s permitted operating modes. A rejected paddle request under one condition can be different from a switch that never registers. Check the owner’s instructions before assuming a transmission fault.
Compare the controls
Record whether both paddles fail, whether manual selection works from the console and whether other steering-wheel buttons are affected. Mention recent wheel, column or software work. Keep any warning or scan information.
Do not dismantle the steering wheel to test the switches, because restraint components may share the area. A technician should identify whether the request is received and whether the transmission is permitted to act on it. If normal gear operation is also affected, report that separately and seek advice about safe use. The distinction between a missing driver input and a refused shift helps avoid sending an unrelated TCU for repair.
