A reset trip record does not automatically indicate loss of all instrument memory. Some trip displays reset according to selected modes, while other settings are retained differently.
Identify the exact display
Record whether the vehicle shows a since-start, since-refuelling or manually reset trip. Use the manual to confirm its intended behaviour. Note whether clock, presets or other preferences also disappear.
If the reset is unexpected, preserve the timing and any starting or voltage symptoms. Avoid replacing the cluster before distinguishing a selected mode from a retention problem. An enquiry should name which values reset and under what conditions; that specificity helps the workshop target the relevant settings, supply or internal function.
