Checking a customer-supplied module before fitting it

Supplying a replacement part does not establish that it is suitable or that the workshop can complete the required setup. Agree the assessment route before installation labour begins.

Provide the purchase information

Keep original and replacement labels, donor details and seller claims. Tell the garage whether the unit is used, repaired or modified. Ask which checks can confirm suitability and what remains uncertain until testing.

Do not expect coding to overcome every hardware difference. If the part proves unsuitable, preserve the evidence for discussion with the supplier. A clear agreement about diagnosis, installation and setup avoids treating a customer’s purchased controller as the confirmed solution before the vehicle’s original fault and compatibility are established.

Need help with this fault?

Browse this collection or prepare a vehicle and module enquiry. Tell us about the vehicle, the fault and any tests already done. Contact our Didcot workshop before travelling or posting a module. Visits are by appointment.
