The name G201 often appears in searches for ABS repairs. It identifies the brake-pressure sensor in the VAG 01435 reference, but the code has more than one description. The wording is worth keeping exactly as the scanner reports it.
Three entries that should not be lumped together
Ross-Tech lists missing or incorrect basic setting, electrical circuit fault and implausible signal variants. Its guidance includes brake-switch checks as well as pressure-sensor investigation. It also describes a repair-kit route for certain compatible MK60 systems; availability and suitability must be checked for the actual unit. See the 01435 technical reference.
That makes “the whole ABS pump must be replaced” a conclusion requiring evidence. It also means a calibration attempt is not an automatic cure for every G201 entry.
Include the brake-light behaviour
Mention whether the brake lamps behave normally, remain on or have recently been repaired. Send all related fault entries and any pressure or switch readings captured by the technician. Record whether the warning started after module replacement, hydraulic work or an unrelated electrical incident.
If a used ABS unit is already fitted, keep the original identification and the replacement identification together. A clear history helps avoid assessing the wrong hardware against the wrong vehicle specification.
Agree the repair scope before removal
Ask whether the proposed work concerns electronics, the hydraulic assembly or both, and what reinstatement steps are required. Do not disconnect brake hydraulics as a DIY diagnostic experiment. Braking complaints and warning lamps need an appropriate vehicle assessment.
