A new wheel-speed sensor has been fitted, but the ABS warning is still there. Before another part is ordered, check that the investigation has followed the complete fault description and the correct wheel.
The four code references
- 00283: front-left wheel-speed sensor G47 — technical reference.
- 00285: front-right wheel-speed sensor G45 — technical reference.
- 00287: rear-right wheel-speed sensor G44 — technical reference.
- 00290: rear-left wheel-speed sensor G46 — technical reference.
These VAG references distinguish electrical and signal faults from mechanical descriptions. Depending on the system, the sensor’s installation, its gap and the condition or suitability of the pick-up can matter alongside the sensor and wiring. A wheel bearing or pick-up problem is not resolved simply by fitting another sensor.
What changed around that corner of the car?
Tell the workshop about recent bearing, brake, hub or suspension work, including which side was worked on. Keep the part numbers from the invoice. If the warning started before the work, make that clear as well; the timing should be recorded accurately.
Ask for the relevant wheel-speed comparison or circuit findings to accompany a module enquiry. “Sensor replaced, fault remains” tells us what was tried, but not what the controller is receiving.
There is also a specific caution in the 00285 reference about mismatched replacement ABS electronics on Passat 3B vehicles. It is a reason to verify the parts in that application, not a diagnosis for every right-front sensor fault.
