Tesla Model 3 CP_a004 and CP_a010 charging equipment alerts

Save a photograph of the full alert before closing it. Tesla’s alert identifier is useful, but the accompanying instruction matters too. A charging problem reported by the car does not automatically mean that the car needs a new charging module.

What these two alerts describe

Tesla’s Model 3 manual links CP_a004 to difficulty recognising a connected cable or its type. CP_a010 concerns communication with the charging equipment, including the control-pilot signal. Tesla notes that these alerts commonly concern external equipment. Persistent symptoms with different equipment need further investigation.

Use the manual associated with your car and software version. This page concerns Model 3 and should not be used to assign the same diagnosis to a different Tesla model.

Give the enquiry a useful comparison

Describe whether the issue happened on a home wallbox, a portable lead or a public charger. Include the charging operator and the time of the failed session so you can request its session record if needed. Tell us whether the alert also appeared when nothing was plugged into the car.

Where the car’s instructions permit another normal charging attempt, and there is no damage, overheating or high-voltage warning, record the result on known working equipment. You do not need to keep repeating the test. A single clear comparison is more useful than a long list of unexplained reconnects.

Keep vehicle and property work separate

Photograph visible damage without touching charging contacts. Do not probe the socket, alter earthing arrangements or use an improvised adaptor. A fixed electrical-supply concern belongs with a qualified electrician or charging installer.

For a vehicle-side assessment enquiry, include the alert photograph, model year and a short charging history. If another garage has inspected the car, attach its report and identify anything already changed. AXION will confirm whether an assessment is available for the exact fault before you arrange a visit.
