If charging stopped working after a module replacement, include that sequence at the start of the enquiry. “The same charging warning is still present” and “a new warning appeared after fitting the unit” are different starting points.
A documented software-related example
BMW SI B61 05 18 concerns a specified US group of i3 REx and i3s REx vehicles produced from July 2016 to November 2017. It describes an EME data-transmission issue affecting KLE diagnosis and a manufacturer learning procedure. It does not establish that every i3 charging complaint needs the same procedure.
This is why a replacement unit should not immediately be condemned when the first charging attempt fails. The responsible workshop needs to match the car, software and work history to the current manufacturer instructions. UK applicability and campaign status must be checked by VIN.
Build a clear before-and-after record
Keep the original scan separate from the scan taken after replacement. Label the files with dates. Include the old and replacement part numbers, whether the replacement was new or used, and any programming or commissioning report supplied by the fitter.
If you only have a verbal diagnosis, request the written fault list before another unit is purchased. Ask which control unit stored the fault and whether the reported condition was present or historic.
Questions to settle before another repair
- Was the replacement selected for this exact vehicle and equipment?
- What manufacturer-guided work was completed after installation?
- Did the symptom change, and was charging actually retested?
- Are there other faults that prevented completion of the intended procedure?
AXION can review a programming or electronics enquiry using those details. Availability depends on the unit, vehicle and access required. A request for software work is not a promise that software will repair a damaged component.
Do not run a downloaded coding file or an unverified teach-in sequence in an attempt to make the warning disappear. Send the reports first and agree the scope of assessment, including any work that needs the complete vehicle.
Sources and next steps
