Tesla Model 3 BMS_a074 and BMS_a079 reduced charge-limit alerts

Your Model 3 may show a lower maximum charge level even though the usual charging target has not been changed. If the screen records BMS_a074 or BMS_a079, photograph the complete alert when safely parked. The code gives the workshop information that a description such as charging stopped does not.

How Tesla describes these alerts

Tesla’s Model 3 manual links these alerts to an internal high-voltage battery condition that restricts performance or charging. Its guidance describes reduced maximum charge and calls for service if the alert persists. This is different from simply reaching the charge target chosen by the driver.

Follow the full instructions shown by your vehicle and the manual for its build. Other alerts may be present at the same time and can change the advice about charging or moving the car. A single code copied from an internet discussion is not enough to assess the whole vehicle.

Keep the restriction separate from battery-health estimates

Record the present charge percentage, the target displayed in the charging menu and the limit or restriction described by the warning. If you have a recent charging record, keep it with the date. Do not describe a charge ceiling as a measured battery state-of-health percentage; they are different pieces of information.

The alert alone does not identify a replaceable cell, establish the repair cost or confirm that an entire battery pack must be replaced. Ask the inspecting provider what evidence supports its proposed work and whether the quote concerns diagnosis, repair or replacement.

Details to send with an enquiry

  • Model year and exact version, plus known battery or charging-system work.
  • A clear image of the complete alert and any additional warnings.
  • When it first appeared and whether it remains present.
  • The recent charging behaviour already observed on AC or DC equipment.
  • Any existing Tesla service assessment and applicable cover information.

Check current manufacturer cover before authorising paid work. Do not repeatedly run the battery very low or attempt forced charging to test whether the limit disappears. Battery disassembly and high-voltage testing require the appropriate specialist procedures.

Confirm support before travelling

Send AXION the alert and vehicle details to discuss whether a suitable EV assessment is available. Confirm the location, scope and movement arrangements first; an enquiry is not acceptance of a battery-pack repair. Do not remove or post a traction battery.

If your warning concerns electrical isolation instead, the Model 3 BMS_a035 and BMS_a123 guide covers a different warning category. Keep all the messages together when requesting assistance.
