P0560 P0561 P0562 P0563: Voltage Faults Before ECU Replacement

BATTERY · POWER SUPPLY · ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSIS

Voltage-related codes can appear alongside several warning lights or communication faults. Replacing the ECU before investigating its electrical supply can leave the original problem in place. Start with the full vehicle history and a recorded scan.

The P0560–P0563 family

  • P0560: a system-voltage fault has been detected.
  • P0561: voltage has been judged unstable.
  • P0562: voltage has fallen below the monitored limit.
  • P0563: voltage has exceeded the monitored limit.

The applicable thresholds and enabling conditions come from the manufacturer’s information for the exact vehicle. Reference: HELLA powertrain code reference.

What happened before the warning?

Record a flat battery, recent charging, a jump start, battery replacement, slow cranking, intermittent starting or an alternator repair. Note whether the fault is present at key-on, during cranking or while driving. Save freeze-frame data where the scan tool provides it; a reading taken later may not represent the original event.

One module or many?

Ask the workshop to compare the complete scan. If many controllers recorded supply-related faults together, the shared electrical supply deserves attention. If the symptoms are confined to one unit, its local wiring and connections also need assessment. Supply and earth tests should use the manufacturer’s wiring diagram and appropriate test conditions.

A useful VAG example: P1602 / 18010

On the VAG applications documented by Ross-Tech, P1602 / 18010 / 005634 relates to low battery supply at Terminal 30. Battery disconnection, a weak battery or a charging-system fault are possible explanations. Terminal 30 describes an unswitched supply, not a universal physical pin number. Read the Ross-Tech reference.

When to enquire about the electronics

Send the recorded electrical test findings with your scan. We can discuss whether vehicle electrical diagnosis or an ECU assessment is the sensible next step. A battery-related code alone does not establish internal ECU damage.

Send AXION your diagnostic details

For a Didcot workshop enquiry or a suitable UK postal module assessment, send the vehicle model, year, engine or gearbox, full module label, complete scan report and a description of what happened. Include previous battery work, programming, water ingress or replacement parts. Please agree suitability before removing or posting a unit.
