ECU IDENTIFICATION · MODULE FAMILIES · DONOR COMPATIBILITY
Searching for an ECU family is a useful starting point, but the family name is not a complete part number. Before arranging a repair, programming job or donor transfer, collect the full label and the controller identification from a diagnostic scan.
Bosch engine-controller families
You may encounter EDC17, ME17, MED17, MD1 and MG1 designations. Examples in Alientech’s published diagnostic coverage include EDC17C46, EDC17C64, MED17.5, MD1CS004 and MG1CS001. These identifiers illustrate why the letters and numbers after the family name matter. They are not an AXION promise of repairability or a donor interchange list.
Continental and Siemens names
Look for the complete designation, such as SID211, SID307, Simos 18.1 or PCR2.1, together with the vehicle manufacturer’s part number. A seller’s description that says only “Siemens ECU” or “Continental ECU” leaves out information needed for a meaningful comparison.
Delphi and Denso units
Examples of Delphi identifiers include DCM3.7, DCM6.2C and DCM6.2V. Denso units also require their complete label and application details; the supplier name alone is insufficient. Retain punctuation, suffixes and revision markings in the photographs you send.

Five details for a useful compatibility enquiry
- Clear, uncropped photographs of the complete original label.
- Vehicle make, model, year, engine and transmission.
- Diagnostic hardware, software and calibration identification where available.
- Full fault codes, symptoms and previous repair/programming history.
- The donor label and whether the original unit still communicates.
ECU, TCU, BCM or another module?
An engine ECU is only one controller in the vehicle. Transmission control, body electronics, ABS/ESP, airbag control, instrument clusters, gateways and EV systems have different roles and identification requirements. Browse the module identification hub to choose the relevant service.
Before buying a replacement
Send both sets of details to our ECU repair and cloning team. Ask whether repair of the original, compatible data transfer or vehicle-specific programming can be considered. Never assume an identical housing means plug-and-play compatibility.
