The transmission must recognise the selected range correctly. P0705 to P0709 identify range-sensor circuit conditions, including implausible, low, high and intermittent signals. Save the precise description and gearbox identification; the sensing arrangement differs between transmissions.

What the driver can record
Note whether the dashboard shows the selected position correctly and whether the problem occurs in Park, Neutral, Reverse or during a change. Describe any flashing display or starting restriction. Do not bypass the starting interlock or experiment with an uncertain gear engagement.
Ross-Tech’s P0706 guidance includes selector-cable adjustment, the range sensor and its connections. On the 01J Multitronic example, the sensor arrangement is associated with the transmission controller, and magnet condition also matters. This detail is specific to that transmission. Before a module is posted
- Save the gearbox code and TCU hardware/software identification.
- Record the selected range shown in live data alongside the physical selector position.
- Include any recent gearbox, selector or cable work.
- Ask whether the fault has been confirmed in the module or remains somewhere in the vehicle circuit.
A remote assessment cannot check the car’s selector adjustment. Equally, replacing external parts repeatedly will not resolve an established internal electronic fault. The right route depends on the evidence.
