An oxygen sensor has a measurement job, but many designs also contain a heater. Those functions should not be confused when a fault report names the sensor. A P0135 entry is a reason to identify the relevant heating circuit before interpreting mixture readings.
Which sensor and which function?
HELLA’s DTC reference associates P0135 with the heating circuit for bank 1, sensor 1. HELLA also explains that heating helps a lambda sensor reach operating temperature promptly. Code reference and lambda-sensor background.
Ask the technician to identify that location using the exact engine information. Do not order a sensor from a photograph or assume that all oxygen-sensor connectors have the same wiring.
Useful repair history
Include the part number of any recently fitted sensor and whether the loom or connector has been repaired. State when the warning returns: immediately, on the next cold start or only after driving. Keep other heater or supply-related codes with the report.
For garages, describe which supply and control checks have been completed and under what conditions. Record the measurement point and applicable specification. A conclusion such as “sensor tested” is less useful than the actual result and method.
Before an ECU repair request
Ask what evidence points beyond the sensor and external circuit. Preserve the original module and scan if a controller issue is suspected. Electrical tests close to a hot exhaust require appropriate precautions and should be left to a technician.
Contact AXION with the report to discuss the next assessment step and whether postal ECU work is suitable.
