Identifying Honda Jazz IMA and e:HEV hybrid systems

The words “Jazz hybrid” do not identify one battery, controller or electrical architecture. Before requesting a repair or buying a donor, send the generation, market specification and labels from the actual vehicle. Imported vehicles deserve particular care because the familiar badge may conceal a different version.

Why the generation matters

Honda’s 2012 Jazz Hybrid announcement describes an Integrated Motor Assist, or IMA, system with a 1.3-litre engine. Honda’s later Jazz e:HEV introduction describes a two-motor hybrid powertrain. These references illustrate the identification problem; the Thai-market release is not a UK fitment catalogue.

Put the right identity on the job

  • Give the registration year and build information separately.
  • State whether the car is a UK-supplied vehicle or an import.
  • Copy warning text exactly and include a complete scan report.
  • Send any module or battery identification already recorded by the garage.

Do not dismantle high-voltage parts to obtain a photograph. Ask the technician to record the necessary identification during an appropriate inspection. A seller’s claim that a unit “fits a Jazz” is not enough evidence to proceed with a purchase.

Discuss the reported fault

Explain whether the enquiry concerns a warning, a starting issue, charging of the low-voltage system or an assessment already performed elsewhere. Avoid turning a dashboard message into a requested parts list. Contact AXION to agree the diagnostic route before sending any component; compatibility and the available work depend on the exact unit.

Use the full fault description from your scan and the repair information for your vehicle.
