Building a fault timeline when several codes appear together

A long fault list can result from several independent problems, or from one event that affected multiple controllers. The order in which codes appear on a printout is not necessarily the order in which the faults happened. Sorting the list alphabetically does not reveal the root cause.

Look for a shared event

Record whether the warnings began after a flat battery, jump start, water ingress, repair or accessory installation. Keep timestamps, mileage and status information where available. Note which functions failed together and which complaints existed beforehand.

Test the common explanation

A shared supply or communication problem is a possibility to investigate, not an automatic conclusion. The garage should compare the evidence with the vehicle’s wiring and network layout. An unrelated current fault can still require attention even if many historical records follow one known event.

Send the complete scan rather than choosing only the most alarming description. Ask the workshop to explain its first test and what result would change the plan. Preserve the initial report before any authorised reset, then compare what returns under relevant conditions with what was only stored from the earlier event.
