A diagnostic interface update changes the tool, while a vehicle software update changes a controller in the car. Confusing the two can make a repair history difficult to interpret.
Label versions clearly
Record the application version, interface firmware and vehicle module identification separately. State which update was performed before the symptom changed. A tool becoming unable to connect after its own update does not prove the vehicle ECU was altered.
Ask the tool provider about supported coverage where relevant, and preserve original logs. For an automotive enquiry, include whether any actual write to the vehicle occurred. That distinction helps the workshop decide whether to investigate tool compatibility, session setup or a genuine vehicle-side change.
