Electronic gear selector diagnostics and repair enquiries
If the vehicle does not recognise a gear selection, the selector display behaves strangely or a Park warning appears, start with the full diagnostic picture. AXION takes enquiries for selector electronics, wiring and supported repair assessment.

The selector is part of a larger system
Electronic gear selectors send the driver’s request to other vehicle controllers. The request, the displayed position and the state confirmed by the transmission need to agree. A fault can sit in the selector, its power or communication connections, an interlock input or another part of the system.
- A selector display that does not match the requested position.
- Intermittent recognition of Park, Neutral, Drive or Reverse.
- A lever, dial or button that sometimes fails to register a command.
- Selection warnings following liquid ingress, low-voltage events or earlier work.
Keep the exact message and complete scan. The same dashboard warning can have different causes across vehicle generations.
Testing before choosing a replacement
For a supported unit, the assessment may cover electrical supply, connector condition, communication, switch inputs and available position information. Garages should include which controllers communicate and any live-data comparison already made.
Where the evidence points to an internal electronic fault, we discuss the available component-level inspection and repair route. Physical mechanism damage or a fault elsewhere in the vehicle may require different work. A removed selector cannot demonstrate that the complete transmission and parking system operate correctly.
Coding and installation checks
Send the original and proposed donor labels before purchasing a replacement. Similar-looking selectors can have different electronics or software requirements. We confirm whether supported coding, setup or vehicle checks are needed for the exact application.
Information that helps the assessment
- Make, model, year and transmission details.
- Complete scan, including the module reporting each fault.
- Which selections work, what the display shows and whether the car can be secured.
- Photographs of the selector label and details of spills, damage or previous replacements.
When the vehicle cannot select or hold a position
Follow the vehicle handbook and arrange professional recovery where needed. Do not force a locked selector or bypass an interlock. A selector warning involving Park or unexpected movement needs attention before the car is used.

Arrange the right assessment
Tell us how the selector behaves and send the complete scan and label. We will discuss whether the selector can be assessed separately or whether vehicle-level diagnosis is needed.
We confirm suitability, the assessment charge and what needs to be supplied before booking. Repair work, parts, programming and return delivery are agreed for the particular job. Expected timescales depend on the fault and testing required.
