Music cuts out, the display goes black and the system returns after a short pause. If a scan records B7F8F9, the head-unit identity and software level matter before deciding on replacement.
The BMW bulletin example
BMW SIB 65 09 19, revised in November 2021, addresses HU-H3 MGU resets on listed vehicles with Live Cockpit Professional option 6U3. It describes a software-related condition and separates the remedy according to the vehicle integration level. Vehicles already at the stated level or later follow a diagnostic test route rather than another automatic programming attempt. Read BMW SIB 65 09 19.
Confirm which head unit is fitted
This is a US-market reference for specified equipment. It is not applicable to every BMW display, CCC, CIC, NBT or aftermarket unit, and its 2021 software information is not a current universal programming target. Check the latest vehicle-specific information. A watchdog entry alone does not prove which repair your vehicle needs.
What to record before booking
- The vehicle model and year, head-unit identification and the complete scan report.
- Whether sound, navigation and the display fail together.
- Whether the restart happens with a particular phone, connection or feature, or with no device connected.
- Any previous software update, retrofit or head-unit replacement.
- A short video of the behaviour and the software information already available.
These details let us discuss the right assessment before parts are ordered. We have also published a confirmed AXION BMW 2 Series firmware repair. That workshop note does not identify its head-unit type or code, so it should not be treated as proof that the same bulletin applied.
AXION supports owners and independent garages with supported firmware and programming enquiries. Send your existing report through our repair enquiry form, or call 07440 134303. We will confirm whether the vehicle is needed at our Didcot workshop or whether a removed module is suitable for UK postal assessment.
