Different circuits tolerate different test methods. A lamp useful on one supply circuit may be inappropriate on a sensitive signal or communication connection. The circuit must be identified before a test load is applied.
Ask for the approved method
A technician should use the relevant wiring and service information, including the expected load and protective arrangements. Do not probe unknown ECU terminals with improvised lamps or jumper wires.
For a repair report, state which circuit was tested and how. “Power present” means little without the conditions. The specialist needs to know whether the method demonstrated useful load capacity or merely showed a voltage, while avoiding a test that could alter or damage the system being investigated.
