Thermal protection can stop a transceiver operating when its temperature becomes excessive. The overheating cause may lie elsewhere in the circuit.
Interpreting the evidence
An assessment should record the time to failure, current draw and relevant supply conditions. Compare the network behaviour before and after the interruption without forcing the unit beyond its rated conditions. A report that only says works cold leaves important questions unanswered.
Keep this evidence
Include previous board repairs, the fitted component reference and whether the fault also occurs in the complete vehicle.
Cooling a unit until it communicates again does not establish a durable repair. The cause and the post-repair operating conditions need to be addressed.
Speak to AXION
For CAN-bus and vehicle-network diagnostics, send your vehicle details and fault report. Workshop assessment is in Didcot, Oxfordshire. Suitable postal or remote work is confirmed before booking.
Technical background from NXP. The referenced design explains the principle; the vehicle-specific procedure determines the repair.
