CAN voltage averaged by a multimeter can hide brief dropouts

A multimeter display summarises a changing signal over time. It may not reveal the short event that interrupted communication.

Interpreting the evidence

For an intermittent warning, ask whether the reported reading was taken during the fault or after the system recovered. A planned waveform capture can add timing information, but its setup must suit the circuit. Keep the original meter result as one observation rather than treating it as proof of a healthy bus.

Keep this evidence

Record measurement location, vehicle state and the duration of the warning.

Neither a normal average nor a single unusual number identifies a controller fault. The useful result connects the electrical event with the symptom.
