Fault-code directory · BCM and body-electronics assessment
A blank climate panel or an unresponsive heating system may have a supply, communication or controller problem. On some vehicles, the visible panel is only one part of the system. The missing function and the module actually named by the scan must be identified separately.
Codes covered
U0164 · U0165 · U0166 · U016B · U0424
The listed codes include communication reports for main or rear climate control, an auxiliary heater and an air-conditioning compressor controller, plus an invalid climate-data report. They do not all identify the same component or use the same network.
Confirm the full description, suffix and reporting module for your vehicle. These are diagnostic starting points, not a parts replacement list.
Evidence that helps narrow the fault
- Record whether the panel is completely blank, the fan works, temperature changes are ignored or only one area of the vehicle is affected.
- Scan the climate controller and gateway where supported. Keep supply and network faults from other modules because they may reveal a common problem.
- Review recent dashboard, battery, heater or compressor work. Confirm the relevant module’s power and wake conditions before treating lack of communication as an internal failure.
Choosing the next repair step
The likely repair could involve a connection, a controller or an unrelated condition that prevents operation. On an EV or hybrid, heating and cooling may also interact with battery thermal management and high-voltage components. The diagnostic scope must therefore match the fitted system rather than assuming a conventional compressor arrangement.
Will replacing the control panel cure a compressor communication code?
Not necessarily. The panel, HVAC controller and compressor controller can be separate devices. Identify which one is unavailable and check its supporting circuit first.
Talk through the fault with AXION
Send the make, model, year, full scan report and a short description of when the fault happens. Include recent repairs or programming attempts. If you do not have a scan, describe the symptoms in your own words.
Workshop assessments are arranged by appointment in Didcot, Oxfordshire. UK-wide postal module testing and remote support are available for suitable work after compatibility and scope are agreed. Please contact us before removing or posting a module.
