Traction inverters can use silicon IGBTs, silicon-carbide switches or other design combinations. These technologies influence how the power stage is designed and controlled. A newer switch technology does not make one complete inverter a direct replacement for another.
Match the assembly to the vehicle
The gate drivers, control strategy, cooling, electrical ratings and mechanical arrangement belong to the inverter design. Infineon’s gate-driver documentation illustrates that support for IGBT and SiC operation is an engineering choice with specific requirements.
Before buying a used inverter, obtain the original part number and the proposed replacement’s full identification. Include suffixes, vehicle market and any known software identity. A shared case shape or seller’s broad model list is not enough to confirm compatibility.
Repair and conversion are different jobs
A repair assessment aims to restore a supported assembly to its required operation. Substituting a different power-stage technology is a system redesign, not an ordinary repair option. Avoid requests based only on claims of extra range or efficiency.
If the original unit is available, retain it and its fault report. Send AXION both labels and the symptom history before committing to parts or postage. We can establish whether the enquiry concerns diagnosis, a supported replacement installation or work outside the available scope.
Arrange an assessment
For EV and hybrid diagnostics, send the vehicle details and fault report to AXION. We support enquiries from drivers and garages. Workshop, postal and remote options depend on the job and are confirmed before booking.
Technical reference
Read the supporting technical documentation. The referenced design or vehicle application defines its scope; it is not a universal repair procedure.
