Ford FDRS and Programmable Module Installation after a controller change

A replacement Ford controller can need an installation procedure even when it already communicates with a diagnostic tool. Ford calls the relevant supported operation Programmable Module Installation, or PMI. Its programming guidance also makes provision for certain recovery situations where the original controller is unavailable.

Agree the installation job before buying a donor

For an enquiry, identify the controller and explain whether the old unit still responds. Supply the original and replacement part numbers together. A seller describing a part as plug-and-play is not evidence that its hardware and configuration suit your vehicle.

Keep any scan taken before removal. It provides a useful record of fitted equipment, software identities and faults that pre-date the change. An original module with unreliable communication should remain available until its information has been assessed.

Installation does not finish at the progress bar

Ford’s guidance notes that additional steps may be listed after programming. The job should allow time to complete the applicable steps and verify the repaired function. Ask whether the estimate covers installation alone or diagnosis of faults that remain afterwards.

AXION can review a Ford module-programming request with those details. Vehicle generation, market and the specific controller determine the supported route. Do not start a recovery procedure from a generic online checklist without establishing that it applies to the failed operation.

Arrange an assessment

For module programming and coding, send the vehicle details and fault report to AXION. We support enquiries from drivers and garages. Workshop, postal and remote options depend on the job and are confirmed before booking.
