If an ECU update stops unexpectedly, record the exact stage and message before another attempt. A failed download, lost diagnostic connection and interrupted writing operation are not interchangeable events. Avoid repeatedly restarting an unfamiliar process without checking the tool’s recovery guidance.
Capture the circumstances
Keep the tool and software version, vehicle identification, selected operation and any saved log. Note the power-support arrangement and whether the vehicle or computer lost power or connection. State what the module does now, including whether identification can still be read.
Protect the original evidence
Retain untouched backups and the original controller. Do not rename unrelated files as backups or send random software from a similar vehicle. A recovery provider needs to know what was actually read and written, not what the operator hoped the process would do.

Recovery is application-dependent and cannot be promised from a code or screenshot alone. Ask how the proposed work will be checked and which installation or vehicle-level procedures remain necessary after the controller is returned.
