Clearing codes can remove information useful to the next diagnostic stage. Before a reset, preserve the report and understand why clearing is appropriate for the planned assessment.
Save more than the number
Keep reporting modules, status, suffixes and available event data. Note the date and vehicle symptoms. A phone photograph may be useful, but a complete exported report is often easier to interpret.
Do not treat an empty fault list immediately after clearing as proof of repair. Relevant conditions may not yet have occurred again. A workshop should explain the reason for the reset and how it will compare returning evidence, so an apparently tidy report does not replace an investigation of the customer’s complaint.
