P0263 cylinder-one contribution faults after injector replacement

P0263 is a cylinder-one contribution or balance fault. In Ross-Tech’s VAG guidance, possible explanations include injector calibration, injector condition, engine mechanics and application-specific software concerns. It is different from a straightforward injector open-circuit diagnosis.

Keep the cylinder evidence together

Record which cylinders are affected, the operating conditions and relevant correction or balance readings. Include any compression or mechanical findings already obtained. Replacing a controller will not restore contribution lost through a mechanical problem.

If injectors were changed, provide their identities and the installation record. On applications requiring injector adjustment data, the workshop should verify the correct data belongs to the correct cylinder. Coding is not proof that an injector is mechanically sound.

Check software applicability carefully

Ross-Tech lists particular CR TDI software examples. Those examples require an engine, market and version match; they are not a reason to update every vehicle displaying P0263.

AXION can review supported injector-control or programming enquiries with the complete diagnosis. Tell us whether the fault predates replacement and whether rough running changes hot or cold. The proposed work should explain why electronics are implicated and what engine-side verification will follow, rather than promising that a reset will correct every contribution fault.

Arrange an assessment

For ECU testing and repair, send the vehicle details and fault report to AXION. We support enquiries from drivers and garages. Workshop, postal and remote options depend on the job and are confirmed before booking.
