P0606: Control Module Processor Fault

What does P0606 mean?

P0606 is a control-module processor diagnostic code. The exact description and test procedure depend on the vehicle and reporting module. For example, Ford’s published OBD documentation lists it as a control-module processor fault, while Volkswagen’s 2014 Passat reference uses ECM processor wording. Those descriptions do not identify the correct repair for every vehicle.

Does the code prove the ECU needs replacing?

It is a reason to investigate, not a parts-ordering instruction. Before discussing repair or replacement, AXION needs the full vehicle details, the controller that logged the code and the diagnostic findings. A screenshot containing only “P0606” leaves out important context.

Ask your diagnosing garage to provide its findings and the applicable manufacturer procedure. Tell us about power-supply concerns, interrupted programming or previous module changes. Do not assume that an online repair example for a different model applies to yours.

What to include in a P0606 enquiry

1. The exact vehicle: registration, make, model, year, engine and transmission.
2. The complete scan: all stored codes, code suffixes, status and the names of the reporting modules.
3. The symptom: no-start, warning lamp, running problem, gear-selection issue or an intermittent concern.
4. The history: recent battery events, water ingress, repairs, software updates or donor fitting.
5. The unit identification: clear original-module label photographs and donor details if relevant.

Postal assessment or workshop diagnosis?

If a garage has isolated the concern to the controller, send its report and ask whether a postal assessment is appropriate. If the cause is still uncertain or the complete vehicle is needed, discuss a Didcot workshop appointment. Agree the route before removing or dispatching the unit.

Keep the original controller. Replacing it before the fault and compatibility are established can complicate the enquiry. Where a donor is proposed, provide both labels and the work already attempted.
