P242F DPF restriction and matching the filter to ECU software

P242F concerns a restricted or clogged diesel particulate filter in Ross-Tech’s VAG reference. Its Crafter notes also explain that particular filter generations require the appropriate ECU software. The fitted hardware and its control information need to belong together.

Keep the replacement record

If the DPF has been changed, supply the actual part number and any programming report. Record the engine code and model year. A filter advertised for the model is not enough to confirm the relevant generation or software match.

The workshop should also retain related engine faults and the available filter-load and pressure evidence. A restriction concern may have contributing engine conditions that need attention alongside the filter itself.

Regeneration is a conditional service operation

It should only be considered within the manufacturer’s procedure and limits after the relevant faults and safety conditions are assessed. A code alone is not permission to force regeneration, particularly where the cause or filter condition is uncertain.

AXION can discuss supported sensor, control and software enquiries using the existing diagnosis. The intended outcome is a functioning emissions system with the correct hardware and configuration. Removing monitoring or clearing calculated values without the specified repair does not establish that the filter or underlying problem has been corrected.

Arrange an assessment

For ECU testing and repair, send the vehicle details and fault report to AXION. We support enquiries from drivers and garages. Workshop, postal and remote options depend on the job and are confirmed before booking.
