A scanner may read information successfully while a requested write operation is refused. On supported Stellantis applications, a secure gateway can restrict diagnostic actions until authorised access is established. The manufacturer’s technical portal describes approved access routes, including ADA for compatible third-party equipment.
Save the refusal message
An authentication problem, an unsupported function and a missing controller are different findings. Record the exact message, tool version and operation attempted. Include the vehicle’s year and module identification so the workshop can check the applicable system.
Do not treat a secure-access refusal as proof that the BCM has failed. The original symptom still needs diagnosis. Conversely, successfully authenticating does not prove that an actuator, wire or controller is in good condition.
Use the supported route
The enquiry should establish whether the task is a routine adjustment, replacement setup or security-related work. Different operations can require different permissions. Removing or bypassing the gateway is not part of the repair advice in this guide.
