SVM stands for Software Version Management. In an ODIS enquiry, it describes a manufacturer process connected with the vehicle’s software and configuration. It is not a promise that any used module can be made to work in any car.
Bring the exact message
Audi’s published SVM explanation describes exchanges involving the vehicle identity, module hardware and software information, coding and parameter data. Available functions depend on the vehicle. A screenshot of “SVM failed” leaves out much of the information needed to understand where the process stopped.
- Keep the complete diagnostic session report.
- Record the module address and full part and software references.
- Include the exact result or error wording.
- Say whether the original unit is fitted, a replacement is installed or a previous update was attempted.
Explain the reason for the request
Tell us whether you are resolving a customer complaint, completing an approved replacement or following a specific repair document. If your garage has a bulletin or instruction, supply its reference and the vehicle details. We can then check the intended operation instead of treating the words “online coding” as a complete job description.
Agree the outcome before starting
Ask what the session is intended to establish and what checks remain afterwards. A request to investigate configuration is different from a request to repair a damaged circuit board. AXION confirms the supported route and the necessary access before accepting the session.
Keep the final report with the repair record and tell us about any warning that remains. Completion of one software task should not be used as evidence that an unrelated mechanical or electrical fault has been repaired.
Ask AXION about the next step
Our ODIS online programming and VAG coding service includes remote technician sessions at £100 per hour for agreed, supported tasks. Send the details before booking. We confirm suitability, expected time and any additional costs before work starts.
