Before replacing a transmission controller, preserve its identification and diagnostic records. Even a non-communicating original can provide useful physical information. Do not discard it because a donor has arrived or the replacement appears to fit.
Keep the replacement trail clear
Record original and donor part numbers, software information and the reason for replacement. State whether the donor is new, used or supplied with data work. A similar housing does not establish that it suits the fitted transmission and vehicle configuration.
Define the commissioning work
Ask which supported programming, coding or setup operations are required and where they must be performed. Removed-unit work and complete-vehicle commissioning are different scopes. A controller that communicates on a bench is not necessarily ready to operate correctly in the car.
For AXION, provide both unit labels and the original scan where available. Agree compatibility before additional purchases or speculative writes. Ownership and security requirements still apply to relevant operations. Clarify responsibility for installation, transmission condition checks and final operation. Keeping the original unit and a traceable work record gives the assessment a firmer basis if the first replacement route proves unsuitable.
