Delayed engagement needs a description of duration, temperature and the position selected. State whether the problem occurs from Park into Drive, into Reverse or both. Do not repeatedly accelerate to force engagement; seek assessment if the vehicle cannot be manoeuvred safely.
Separate the first engagement from shifts while moving
A delay after an overnight stop is different from a pause at every traffic light. Record whether the gearbox behaves normally once moving and whether warnings accompany the delay. Keep the fluid-service and repair history, without assuming that either electronics or hydraulics must be responsible.
What a referral should include
The full scan, transmission identification and any garage measurements help define the next step. A TCU enquiry should be supported by relevant electrical or control evidence; the symptom alone does not prove that a removed controller needs repair.
Send AXION the history and ask whether the proposed assessment requires collaboration with a transmission specialist. Clarify which mechanical and fluid-condition checks have already been completed. Keep the original control unit and configuration records available if replacement has been suggested. The repair scope should address the observed engagement problem, not merely remove its warning message.
