A seat that travels forward but not backwards presents a more specific complaint than a completely inoperative seat. Record which adjustments work, which fail and whether either the door switch or memory buttons behave differently.
Separate control from movement
Explain whether there is a click or motor sound and whether the movement stops at the same position. Check only for obvious loose objects using the owner’s instructions; keep hands away from moving mechanisms. Wiring and restraint components may be present beneath the seat.
Do not apply power to unknown terminals or bridge a switch. The workshop should compare the requested direction, available supply and mechanical travel using the correct information. If the seat cannot be positioned securely for driving, arrange assistance before using the vehicle. Include any recent interior cleaning, seat removal or liquid spill, because that history can help the technician choose the first inspection.
