Some diagnostic reports include an occurrence or frequency counter. Its meaning depends on the controller and tool; it should not automatically be interpreted as the number of times the driver experienced the symptom.
Keep the field in context
Save the exact label, code, status and scan date. Note whether fault memory was recently cleared or a module replaced. Compare reports only when their methods and definitions are understood. A higher number does not necessarily make one fault more serious than another.
The diagnosing garage should consult the relevant information before using a counter to establish chronology or persistence. Combine it with the driver’s timeline and other stored conditions. Avoid replacing the component with the largest count simply because it appears most prominent. For an enquiry, send the complete original report rather than manually summarising the counters; that allows the specialist to judge what the displayed information can reliably contribute to the investigation.
