A checksum error can indicate damaged communication, but an incorrect message layout can also prevent a decoder from validating the data. The raw waveform remains important evidence.
How to narrow it down
Confirm the sensor format and supported decoder options before treating every flagged message as a wiring fault. Compare errors with supply disturbances, waveform changes and the vehicle symptom. A repeatable error that exists only with one decoding profile needs the profile checked first.
What to include with the fault report
Send the original capture and all relevant decoder options, together with the sensor reference.
A clean checksum is not proof of correct physical measurement. It addresses message integrity rather than sensor calibration or mechanical condition.
