An EV charging session can fail at protocol negotiation

Compatible charging hardware still needs a successful exchange between vehicle and charger software. A negotiation failure can stop the session before a useful charging-current diagnosis is possible.

How to narrow it down

Preserve both sides’ error messages and the session timestamp. Check supported software updates and known vehicle or charger guidance through the relevant providers. If the fault is repeatable, a specialist can use the protocol-stage evidence to narrow the investigation.

What to include with the fault report

Include whether AC charging works and whether the problem affects one or several DC chargers.

Do not label every early charging failure as a defective on-board charger. The architecture and failed stage must be identified first.
