HELLA publishes a technical note for the BMW i3 I01, model year 2013, concerning simultaneous loss of steering assistance, radiator-fan operation and driving-dynamics functions. It identifies incorrectly installed or unsuitable fuses as one possible explanation and discusses the B+ distribution unit after other causes have been excluded through the prescribed diagnosis.
This example is not evidence that every i3 with multiple warnings needs a fuse box, nor does it apply automatically to later vehicles carrying the i3 name. Ask the workshop to confirm applicability against the vehicle identification and current repair information.
Build one timeline for the whole complaint
- Record which warning appeared first and which functions changed at the same time.
- Include recent battery, charging, electrical or accident-repair history.
- Save a complete diagnostic scan with controller names and fault descriptions.
- Distinguish a technician’s confirmed test result from an initial suspected cause.
If a component has already been removed, retain its label photographs and the vehicle-side report. A loose unit cannot demonstrate what happened elsewhere in the car. Discuss the diagnostic question with the team before purchasing a donor or requesting coding work.
