A matching connector or similar part number is not enough to establish whether a used ECU can work in another vehicle. Check the original module identification and the intended programming route before buying a donor unit.
Keep the original module information
Photograph every label clearly and retain the original unit. Record the vehicle identity, engine, transmission and the diagnostic identification if it can still be read. Hardware and software references can both matter. Do not reduce the enquiry to a single number copied from a sales listing.
Check the complete reference and application
Part-number suffixes, hardware revisions and manufacturer replacement references may distinguish units that look alike. A seller’s compatibility list is useful information to check, not a substitute for confirming the particular vehicle and unit. Ask for clear photographs of the actual donor rather than a generic product image.
Agree the programming route before purchase
Cloning, coding, software programming and adaptation describe different operations. Their availability depends on the module architecture, the condition of the original and donor, and the information that can legitimately be recovered. Some units or functions require manufacturer access or vehicle-based procedures. A repair enquiry should establish what is feasible before the donor is ordered.
Describe previous attempts honestly
Tell AXION if either unit has been opened, programmed, modified or unsuccessfully cloned. Keep tool reports and backups with the repair history where they are available and lawfully held. Prior changes can affect both diagnosis and the possibility of returning to the original configuration.
Keep ownership and supply arrangements clear
Security-related adaptation requires an authorised repair route and appropriate ownership information. Ask the seller about the unit’s provenance and return conditions before purchasing. Do not assume AXION has approved a donor, can make every unit compatible, or can guarantee a result from a part-number photograph alone.
