CAN CRC errors and an application checksum are different checks

The CAN frame check and a checksum inside its payload operate at different levels. A diagnostic report should identify which check actually failed.

Interpreting the evidence

For a communication complaint, separate decoder-reported frame corruption from a receiving ECU rejecting otherwise delivered information. Review the exact error wording and the recording configuration. This helps prevent a wiring investigation and a software-compatibility enquiry from becoming one unsupported conclusion.

Keep this evidence

Keep the original fault description, source module and a capture covering the event.

A checksum-related label does not automatically prove damaged ECU memory. The specific protocol and vehicle application define the next test.

Speak to AXION

For CAN-bus and vehicle-network diagnostics, send your vehicle details and fault report. Workshop assessment is in Didcot, Oxfordshire. Suitable postal or remote work is confirmed before booking.

Technical background from Kvaser. The referenced design explains the principle; the vehicle-specific procedure determines the repair.
