The word EEPROM in a diagnostic or programming conversation does not always identify a separate component on the circuit board. Some controllers use a managed area of flash memory to provide EEPROM-like storage. The actual architecture must be established for the exact hardware.
Identify the memory arrangement
NXP documents EEPROM emulation using flash. That design example explains the concept; it is not a repair procedure or memory map for every vehicle ECU. A technician needs the relevant device and tool information before interpreting a readout.
For an enquiry, provide the ECU label, processor identification if already documented and the original tool log. Do not remove a small chip simply because it resembles an EEPROM seen online. Ask what data is included in the supported backup and what remains outside it. Keeping a complete record of the original state is more useful than assuming a single file represents every setting in the controller.
