When an ECU reading operation fails, a photograph of the last error may show only the end of the story. Keep the operation record and describe what happened before the message appeared. That helps the support provider distinguish the reported failure from later recovery attempts.
Use the tool’s own support record
AutoTuner provides an error-log export for an ECU reading operation. Its documentation says the package includes logs and a screenshot. Other tools have their own support processes, so use the instructions for the actual product rather than recreating a report from memory.
Preserve the original export. A short explanation beside it is helpful; rewriting or selectively copying parts of the log can remove context that the reviewer needs.
Describe the last successful stage
State whether identification completed, whether a read began and what the tool reported when it stopped. Include the ECU label or identification, tool model, software version and selected method. Explain whether the car was working before the attempt and whether it has changed since.
List any actions taken afterwards in their original order. If a second tool was connected or a different operation attempted, say so. The aim is an accurate record, not an account that makes the first attempt look successful.
Pause before changing the approach
Do not keep repeating an unsuccessful operation or move to a different connection method without the relevant guidance. Preserve the current state and use the tool maker’s support process where required. Recovery availability depends on the unit and the actual failure.
For an AXION enquiry, send the vehicle and operation details first and mention that a log is available. We will confirm whether the case is suitable for review and how supporting material should be transferred. Do not put ECU files or logs on a public forum simply to create a download link.
Keep account passwords and licence credentials out of the report. If the manufacturer needs an account-specific support request, use its official channel. A technical log is evidence for an assessment, not permission for anyone to access your tool account.
