What the component does
HELLA describes steering sensors integrated into electromechanical power steering. Depending on the design, a sensor measures steering torque alone or both torque and steering angle. These are different measurements: the control system needs to understand the driver’s steering input. A steering-related code must therefore be interpreted against the exact system and sensor arrangement.
Information that helps an assessment
Include the warning wording, whether assistance is lost in one or both directions, whether the problem follows starting or battery work, and any recent steering, suspension or alignment work. Supply the full steering/ABS scan, vehicle build details and the steering unit part number where accessible without removal. A photograph of the warning is useful only when safely parked.
Before ordering or removing a unit
A fault message identifies a system to investigate; it does not prove that its control unit needs replacement. Record the complete scan report and component identification before codes are cleared or parts are ordered. Repair suitability depends on the exact unit and the findings from diagnosis.
