The cable is connected, but charging will not begin. Or the session has ended and the plug will not release. These are different situations, and a useful enquiry starts by saying which one you have.
The lock is part of the charging system
HELLA explains that charging-socket locking actuators prevent a connector being pulled out prematurely. Its actuator example also uses a microswitch to establish the position of the locking element. Read HELLA’s component explanation.
This helps explain why movement and confirmation of position are separate questions. It does not establish which actuator design your vehicle uses or prove that the actuator is faulty.
Record what happens in order
- Does the plug seat normally, and what does the vehicle display?
- Is a click heard when locking or unlocking is requested?
- Is the problem before charging starts or after the session ends?
- Does it involve the vehicle end, the charge-point end or both?
Save the charger message and time of the event. Include whether the problem occurs with one cable or with more than one known-compatible charging arrangement, if that is already known. Do not force the plug, probe its terminals or try to defeat the locking mechanism.
A stuck cable needs the correct release procedure
Follow the vehicle handbook and charge-point operator’s instructions for ending the session and releasing the connector. Emergency-release arrangements differ between vehicles. If release fails, contact assistance rather than dismantling the port.
