Remaining in one gear can be part of a protective operating response, but “limp mode” is a description rather than a diagnosis. Record the displayed gear, warnings and whether restarting changes the behaviour. Follow the vehicle’s instructions on continued operation.
Save the complete fault context
Keep engine, transmission and related system reports together. A restriction reported by the gearbox may need information from another controller. Do not erase all codes before the original event is documented, particularly if the symptom is intermittent.
Identify the actual transmission
Different gearbox types respond differently to faults. The model name alone may not identify the fitted unit or software. Provide transmission identification and details of any previous repair, fluid work or adaptation reset.
